Carioca (card game)

Carioca is a card game of the rummy family, described as a Chilean variation of Continental Rummy that is also played in Argentina and Uruguay. It is played with two decks of cards plus two jokers, 108 cards in all, over eight rounds. Each round sets the players a predefined combination to build, such as sets of three cards of the same face value or straights of at least four sequential cards of one suit, and the demands grow as the rounds go on. A player who builds the required hands can lay them down, and going out with no cards left earns a bonus. As in golf, the object is to finish with the smallest number of points, since cards still in hand when another player goes out count against a player. The rules given in the source describe one variant, Perla's Cariocas, and other variations add further rounds.
