Speed (card game)

Speed is a fast paced shedding card game for two players, played with a standard 52 card deck, in which each player races to be the first to empty their hand onto two shared central piles. Each player holds a hand of cards plus a reserve of face down cards called the stock, and after an initial setup both players simultaneously play cards from their hand onto the two shared piles whenever a card is one rank higher or lower than the top card showing, with no turn order once play begins. When neither player can move, both players flip fresh cards from their side piles to keep the shared piles active, and a player wins by playing their entire hand and side pile before their opponent does. Because both players act simultaneously and continuously rather than in alternating turns, Speed is known for extremely fast rounds and has many named regional and house rule variants that adjust the setup, pile sizes or matching rules.
