Indian Rummy

Indian Rummy, also called Indian Cherokee Rummy or Paplu, is a card game played in India that adapts the mechanics of Western Rummy, combining elements of Rummy 500 and Gin Rummy into a distinct national variant. Each player is dealt thirteen cards and must draw and discard in turn while trying to arrange their hand into valid sets and sequences that satisfy Rummy's melding rules before any opponent does; a single fifty-two card deck is used when two people play, and two decks shuffled together are used when three to six people play. Some historians trace its development to an older South Asian Rummy variant known as Celebes Rummy, or Rhuk, suggesting the game evolved locally rather than arriving as a direct import of the Western form. Indian Rummy is widely played across India both socially and, in scored formats, competitively.
