Conquian

Conquian, also known as Coon Can, or as Colonel in its two-player form, is a rummy-style card game generally regarded as one of the oldest members of the rummy family. The game originated in Mexico, where surviving court records from 1861 describe a card game recognizable as conquian as already established during the previous decade, and it later spread into the southwestern United States. It is normally played by two to six people with a stripped deck, most often removing some of the middle ranks from a standard pack. Players draw and discard in turn, aiming to be the first to meld their entire hand into sets and sequences; a hand is only complete, and the game only won, once a player has melded exactly eleven cards, with the card just drawn required to be part of the final meld. Its emphasis on drawing from the discard pile to build melds directly is one of the features that distinguishes it from later rummy variants it is thought to have influenced.
