Krur is a traditional mancala board game played by the Hassaniya people across a wide stretch of the Sahara, including western Sahara, the Nigeria-Mauritania border area, southern Morocco, Algeria, northern Senegal, Mali and Niger. It is played on a two-row board of four holes per side, each hole starting with four seeds. On a turn a player picks up all the seeds from one hole on their own side and sows them one by one into successive holes moving counterclockwise around the board. If the last seed sown lands in a hole that already holds seeds, the player picks up that hole's full contents and continues sowing in the same direction, so a single turn can run through several rounds of sowing before it ends. A turn ends only when the last seed sown falls into an empty hole. Play continues until the board is exhausted, and the player who has captured more seeds than their opponent wins. Krur is generally treated as a children's game and sits alongside other regional mancala variants such as Layli Goobalay and Nsa Isong.
