Vai Lung Thlan

Mancala Games

Vai Lung Thlan is a variety of the board game mancala played by the Mizo people of eastern India. It is played by two players on a board with twelve holes arranged in two rows, with five beads in each hole at the start, so sixty beads are on the board in all. Each player sows counters from the holes in their own row in a clockwise direction. If the last counter lands in an empty hole it is captured, together with any unbroken line of holes behind it that each hold a single counter, and the player who captures the most counters wins. The Mizo people who play it live in India, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
