The Game is a dice game designed by Reinhold Wittig and first published in Germany in 1979, without rules and under the German name Das Spiel. It is less a single game than a game system. The set contains a triangular base plate, 281 dice in four colours and a rule book that gives rules for some fifty or more games. Most of these games are centred on building or demolishing pyramids of dice, but there are also racing games and games of skill. The first edition was only a small version of the dice pyramid with no rules at all, and over time players contributed their own rules to a growing collection. In his preface Wittig presents the set as a challenge to invent rules of your own for the dice pyramid. The game won a special award for the most beautiful game at the 1980 Spiel des Jahres.
