Glory (wargame)

Modern Conquest and War Games

Glory, subtitled The Battles of First and Second Manassas and Chickamauga, 1861-63, is a two-player board wargame published by GMT Games in 1995. One player controls Union forces and the other the Confederates in three American Civil War battles. The box holds two hex grid maps at 250 yards per hex, 420 counters, an eight page rule book and an eight page scenario book. Its three scenarios are First Manassas (eight turns, one day), Second Manassas (28 turns, three days) and Chickamauga (three days). Players choose among four ways of ordering moves, including drawing division counters from a cup, and damaged units are first disordered, then routed, then eliminated. Richard Berg designed it, with cover art by Rodger B. MacGowan and maps by Rick Barber. It was the first of a series of three games sharing the same rules, followed by Glory II (2002) and Glory III (2007). Reviewers praised its simplicity and tension but criticised the missing rule examples and some scenario setup errors.
