Exploding Kittens

Party and Word Games

Exploding Kittens is a casual card game played with its own dedicated deck. Matthew Inman, creator of The Oatmeal webcomic, designed it together with Elan Lee and Shane Small, and it was first published in 2015. It began as a Kickstarter project that asked for US$10,000 and passed that goal in eight minutes. By January 27, 2015, after seven days, it had passed 103,000 backers, a Kickstarter record, and when the campaign closed on February 19, 2015 it had raised US$8,782,571 from 219,382 backers, making it the fourth most funded campaign on the site. The first playtest was recorded on YouTube by Smosh Games, who held the first deck, and backers received their copies between late July and September 2015.
