DVONN

Abstract strategy board game

DVONN is a two-player abstract strategy game designed by Kris Burm and released in 2001 as the fourth game in his GIPF Project series. Players place white, black and red DVONN pieces onto a hexagonal board and then stack pieces on top of one another, with any stack not connected to a DVONN piece removed from play. The game ends when neither player can make a legal move, and victory goes to whoever controls the larger total of pieces in their captured stacks. A game runs about thirty minutes, involves no chance, and is recommended for ages eight and up. DVONN won the International Gamers Award in 2002 and the Games magazine Game of the Year Award in 2003, and has been published by Rio Grande Games, Don and Co. and SmartGames.
