Dameo is an abstract strategy board game for two players, created by the Dutch game designer Christian Freeling in the year 2000. It is played on a standard eight by eight checkered gameboard, the same size used for international draughts and chess, and it is classified as a variant of the game of checkers while introducing its own distinct movement and capturing rules that depart from traditional draughts. As with other Freeling designs, the game was built to explore how far the checkers family of games could be reworked while remaining a fast-playing, purely abstract contest with no hidden information, dice or chance elements, placing full responsibility for the outcome on each player's own tactical choices during the game.
