Clan War

Modern Conquest and War Games

Clan War is a fantasy miniatures game for two players, designed by Ken Carpenter and released in 1998 by Alderac Entertainment Group, with Wizards of the Coast also listed as a publisher. It is based on the Legend of the Five Rings setting, a world strongly influenced by feudal Japan in which samurai of various clans fight to support their lord's bid to become Emperor, alongside shugenja who work magic, dragons, naga and hordes of oni demons. Each player spends a points allowance to build an army, and armies normally draw on a single clan or unaligned units, with units from other clans costing a premium. Named personalities lead units of basic troops and bring unique skills. Combat uses a d10 rolling system, and each player also builds a customized deck of thirty cards for special moves and morale tests, much as in a collectible card game. A battle lasts about six to ten turns and a full game is listed at around three hours.
