Chomp is a two-player strategy game played on a rectangular grid of small square cells, which can be pictured as the blocks of a chocolate bar. The players take turns choosing one block and eating it, which removes it from the board together with every block below it and to its right. The block in the top left corner is poisoned, and the player who is forced to eat it loses. The chocolate-bar version of the game is due to David Gale, while an equivalent game expressed in terms of choosing divisors of a fixed integer was published earlier by Frederik Schuh. Mathematically, Chomp is a special case of a poset game, played on a partially ordered set that is a product of total orders with the minimal element, the poisonous block, removed.
