Cardfight!! Vanguard is a Japanese trading card game at the center of a wider multimedia franchise, jointly credited to Akira Ito, Satoshi Nakamura, Mitsuhisa Tamura and Bushiroad president Takaaki Kidani. Bushiroad launched the card game in 2011 alongside an anime series that began airing on January 8, 2011, and the property has since grown to include manga, video games, a live-action drama and a hybrid live-action and animated film released on September 13, 2014. In-game matches are framed as taking place on a fictional planet called Cray, and the game's cards and characters are tied to that setting throughout the fiction. The trading card game won recognition for its marketing and accessibility, including a most-excellent-game honor at the 2012 Trading Card Game Awards, and Bushiroad has continued to release new anime seasons and card sets through 2026, keeping the franchise active well over a decade after its debut.
