Bizingo

Displacement and Capture Games

Bizingo is a two-player strategy board game created sometime in the 1850s in the United States, in which two armies face one another on a triangular grid. Each piece is restricted to cells of its own colour, so on an open board a piece has up to six possible moves to an empty adjacent cell of that colour. A regular piece is captured by being surrounded on three sides. An enemy captain is also captured by three-sided surrounding, but one of the surrounding pieces must itself be a captain. A piece on the edge of the board can be captured by surrounding it on two sides, again only when one of the surrounding pieces is a captain. A piece moved into a cell already surrounded by three enemy pieces is captured at once unless that move itself made a capture. A player wins by reducing the opponent to two pieces.
