Battle Spirits

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Battle Spirits is a two-player collectible card game developed jointly by Bandai and Sunrise, Inc., and it is also the name of a wider franchise that includes several anime series, manga serialisations and other merchandise such as toys and video games. The card game was released in Japan in September 2008, where it quickly became one of the top selling trading card games of that year. Because of this popularity, Bandai of America released it in the United States on August 14, 2009. A lack of advertising and an inaccurate translation from Japanese to English limited the American run to only five sets. Today the game is available only in Asia and is printed only in Japanese. The source treats the card game and the franchise together, since the same name covers the cards, the anime series, the manga serialisations and the toys and video games sold under the brand.
