Briscola is a Mediterranean trick-taking card game that ranks among the most popular games in Italy, together with Scopa and Tressette. It is played with a standard Italian 40-card deck by two to six players, and it is an ace-ten game. The game can also be played with a modern Anglo-French deck once the eight, nine and ten cards are removed, and Portuguese variations of this kind exist. With three or six players the twos are taken out of the deck so that the number of cards divides evenly among the players. The four-player and six-player versions are partnership games between two teams, seated so that each player sits next to two opponents. Briscola is described as a little-changed descendant of Brusquembille, the ancestor of briscan and bezique.
