Treasure of the Silver Dragon is a fantasy role-playing game adventure published by Metagaming Concepts in 1980. It is the fourth title in the company's MicroQuest series, which used the rules of The Fantasy Trip, and it needs copies of both Melee and Wizard to play. Designed by Howard Thompson, it is a programmed dungeon treasure hunt for one to six players set on an alternate magical Earth called Dragonodonia, where the ruling silver dragon Etherion has been frozen in stasis by evil forces. Player characters visit numbered map locations to uncover clues, meeting random beasts, warriors, traders, slavers and wizards on the way. The game became known for its promotion: clues hidden in the game led to a real solid silver dragon buried in New Mexico and a $10,000 prize. A student, Thomas Davidson, solved the puzzle and dug up the dragon about six weeks after release, far sooner than the designer had hoped, and a sequel, Treasure of Unicorn Gold, followed a year later.
