Slobberhannes is a trick-taking card game that is generally described as American, though its name and some accounts point to a possible German origin. It is built for four players, although three to six can take part, and it is played with a stripped 32-card pack in which Ace ranks high and there are no trumps. Players must follow suit, and the highest card of the led suit wins each trick. Unlike most trick-taking games, the aim is avoidance: a player loses a point for winning the first trick, the last trick or the Queen of Clubs, and loses four points for taking all three. A point is also lost for a revoke. Its history is unclear. Card-game writers connect it to the German game Schinderhannes and to Polignac, but no German sources attest it before the 21st century, and English-language card books mention it from about 1880.
