Löwenherz

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Löwenherz, German for Lionheart, is a German-style board game designed by Klaus Teuber and published in 1997 by Goldsieber in German and by Rio Grande Games in English. Players take the roles of regents in a kingdom in disarray and try to secure territory. The board is assembled from smaller boards laid out in a grid, and each player places castles, then scores by closing off regions with walls or boundary markers so that each region holds only one of their castles. Most turns revolve around action cards, which let a player build walls, expand a region into a rival's region, place knights to defend, and in the original edition collect money or draw politics cards. Löwenherz is counted as one of three brother games born from the same idea as The Settlers of Catan and Entdecker. The original won the Deutscher Spiele Preis, and a revised 2003 edition titled Domaine in English won the Schweizer Spielepreis.
