Love Letter (card game)

Deduction and Guessing Games

Love Letter is a short card game of deduction and risk designed by Seiji Kanai and introduced in May 2012. Each player is trying to get a love letter to the Princess with the help of relatives and acquaintances, which gives the play a loose flavor of medieval courting. At the start of a round one card is set aside face down, every player is dealt one card and the rest form a draw deck. On a turn a player draws a card and then plays either that card or the one already held, carrying out the effect printed on it. A round ends when the deck runs out, when the highest card in hand wins, or when only one player is left in play. The round winner takes a favor token, and the first to collect the agreed number of tokens, from three to seven depending on player count, wins the game. Alderac Entertainment Group produced the first English edition until 2018, when Z-Man Games took it over. A premium edition appeared in 2016 and a second edition with new artwork in 2019.
