Klondike is a board game released in 1975 by Gamma Two Games and based on the gold rush in the Canadian Yukon. Players move tokens along a track according to the roll of the dice. The spaces along two adjacent sides of the board are the prospecting fields where gold is panned; a player landing on one turns over the top card of one of four stacks, each standing for a different creek, to reveal how much gold was found, or else follows the printed instruction describing a supposed, often humorous, misfortune that has befallen the prospector. The other two sides of the board represent a town where players can buy up services such as hotels, supply stores, casinos and saloons, along the lines of Monopoly, and these then take money from the gold panners who land on them. The winner is the player with the most cash when the gold runs out, that is when all four card stacks are used up. Buildings and property are worth nothing at that point, because they are treated as part of a ghost town.
