Great Western Trail (board game)

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Great Western Trail is a complex Eurogame designed by Alexander Pfister for two to four players and published by Eggertspiele in 2017, with a second edition in 2021 that also supports solo play. It is loosely themed on the American frontier and the Great Western Cattle Trail, and players act as ranchers who drive herds of cattle to Kansas City and ship them onward by train. A turn combines hand management, action selection and strategic movement: a herder moves along the trail, the space where it lands offers actions such as building, buying or selling cattle, trading and hiring workers, and passing hazards or rival buildings costs coins. Delivering unique cattle cards earns coins, and the aim is to collect the most victory points. A full game takes about seventy-five to one hundred fifty minutes.
