Cyclades is a board game for two to five players, designed by Bruno Cathala and Ludovic Maublanc and dated 2009 by its Board Game Matcher listing. It is set among the gods and island cities of the ancient Greek world, and its central mechanism is an auction. Each round the players bid gold for the favour of one god, then carry out that god's power before moving on to the next. Ares brings military conquest, Poseidon naval expansion and Apollo economic growth, and since a player can usually afford only one god per turn, rivals spend heavily to deny each other the power they need. Fights are settled with dice, but the real decisions are about bidding and timing, and the first player to build two cities wins. A game takes about ninety minutes and is rated medium in complexity.
