Container (board game)

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Container is an economic simulation board game for three to five players, themed around the shipping industry, in which the main pieces are miniature shipping containers. It was first released in 2007, reissued in a special edition in 2017 and followed by a more compact version from Allplay in 2026. The designers are Franz-Benno Delonge, Thomas Ewert and Kevin Nesbitt, with art by Mike Doyle, and Valley Games published it. Each player runs a shipyard with a production facility and a ship. Players produce containers in five colour-coded kinds, price them in a factory store, buy from rivals, move their ships between the open sea and other docks, and take goods to a small industrialising island where a blind auction decides who buys. Supply and demand, cash management and return on investment drive play, and each player holds a secret card giving the value of each container type to them.
