Caylus is a strategy oriented board game in the German-style tradition, designed by William Attia and independently published in 2005. It supports two to five players and a typical game runs between sixty and one hundred eighty minutes. Players take on the roles of workers and lords helping to build the medieval French town of Caylus for its king, using building placement, resource production and negotiation over turn order rather than dice rolling or direct player conflict to gain influence and favor with the crown. A card based variant called Caylus Magna Carta followed in 2007, streamlining the original design, and an iOS digital adaptation was released in 2012, extending the game's reach beyond the physical tabletop edition.
