Bunnies & Burrows is a tabletop role-playing game inspired by Richard Adams' 1972 novel Watership Down, in which the players take the part of intelligent rabbits. Fantasy Games Unlimited published it in 1976, only two years after Dungeons & Dragons, and brought out a second edition in 1982. It was credited as the first role-playing game to encourage non-humanoid characters and the first to have detailed martial arts and skill systems. Because the characters are rabbits, they face dangers that mirror the real world: predators, competition for food and natural hazards, with humans as the only true monsters. That position at the bottom of the food chain pushes play toward problem solving and role-playing instead of combat. The task system uses percentile dice and the game offers eight abilities and eight classes. Steve Jackson Games published an official GURPS supplement in 1992, and Frog God Games released a revised third edition in 2019 after a Kickstarter campaign.
