Casino and Scoring Card Games

Blackjack, also called twenty-one, is a card game played between one or more players and a dealer, in which each side tries to build a hand whose card values total as close to 21 as possible without exceeding it. Number cards count at face value, face cards count as ten, and an ace counts as either one or eleven. A player who exceeds 21 busts and loses immediately, and a hand consisting of an ace and a ten-value card is a natural blackjack that beats any other winning hand. The game descends from European gambling card games of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, most directly the French game vingt-et-un, and it is now one of the most widely offered banked card games in casinos around the world.

Blackjack and baccarat are both classed as banking card games, in which every player plays against a single banker or dealer rather than against each other, distinguishing them from trick-taking and rummy-family card games where players compete directly against one another.
