Biriba

Matching and Shedding Card Games

Biriba is a Greek variant of the rummy family of card games, based on the Italian game Pinnacola. It is played by two to six players using two decks plus four jokers, 108 cards in all, and when six people play one more deck and two more jokers are added. It can also be played by three players with or without partnership rules. The Greek name may derive from the Italian game Biribara, Biribisso or Biribi, although that game is entirely different and closer to roulette. As a rummy variant based on an Italian game, it shows how a card game was adapted in Greece with its own deck size, player range and name.
