Rabouge is a German card game for any number of players, played with French-suited cards, in which each player tries to discard their cards as quickly as possible to a central pile. It resembles the two-player patience Russian Bank but is easier to play. It also goes by Rappuse, Rapuse, Grabuge, Grabouge, Rapouse and Rabuse, and despite its French-sounding names it appears to be of Dutch or north German origin. It most likely emerged in the second half of the eighteenth century, had its first rules published in 1808, fell out of fashion around 1830, and then enjoyed a revival that made it very popular in late nineteenth century Germany. Each player needs a standard 52-card pack, suits are irrelevant, and players race to build shared sequences of thirteen cards from Ace upward. A completed sequence, and its thirteenth card, is called a rabouge. The winner is the first to play all their cards or, if play reaches an impasse, the player with the most rabouges.
