Magic: The Gathering

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Magic: The Gathering, colloquially known as Magic or MTG, is a collectible, tabletop and digital collectible card game created by Richard Garfield and released by Wizards of the Coast in 1993 as that company's first trading card game. Each player represents a dueling wizard called a Planeswalker, and every card drawn from the player's deck stands for a magical spell, a creature or a resource. Instant and Sorcery cards are cast for a one-time effect, while Creature, Artifact, Enchantment, Planeswalker and Battle cards stay on the Battlefield to give a lasting advantage, and Land cards supply the mana needed to cast spells. A player usually wins by reducing an opponent's life total to zero, most often through combat damage from attacking creatures, although other damage sources and alternative win conditions exist. The game can be played by two or more players with paper cards or on a computer, smartphone or tablet.
