Kingmaker (board game)

Modern Conquest and War Games

Kingmaker is a historical strategy board game set during the Wars of the Roses, the fifteenth century struggle over the English crown. It was published in 1974 and designed by Andrew McNeil. Each player takes charge of a noble family and competes to crown and protect a royal heir, using military strength and political influence to gain sway over who sits on the throne. The game accommodates two to seven players and uses area movement, dice rolling and event cards, with a full session listed at about four hours. It has been issued by several publishers over the years, among them Ariel Productions, Gibsons, Avalon Hill and TM Games. Its blend of battle, alliance and intrigue makes it an early example of a multiplayer game of dynastic politics.
