Cranium is a party game created by Whit Alexander and Richard Tait and first released in 1998. It mixes several kinds of activity within one game, including drawing, sculpting, acting, trivia and word puzzles, so that a group of four or more players draws on a wider range of skills than most single-mechanic party games, an approach the company marketed under the slogan The Game for Your Whole Brain. Cranium broke from typical board game retail by selling first through Amazon.com and Starbucks coffee shops rather than toy stores alone. The game and its spinoff titles went on to sell 44 million copies combined, and in 2008 Hasbro bought the Cranium, Inc. company for 77.5 million dollars, bringing the brand into Hasbro's own game lineup.
