Classic BattleTech

Modern Conquest and War Games

Classic BattleTech is a table-top wargame set in the fictional BattleTech universe, simulating combat between futuristic mechanized forces. FASA Corporation published the first set in 1984 under the name BattleDroids and went on to release many supplements through the 1980s and 1990s. FASA stopped producing it in 2001 and sold the franchise to WizKids, FanPro licensed it and released sourcebooks as Classic Battletech, and Catalyst Game Labs took the license in June 2007 and returned to the name BattleTech. The game is turn based and usually played on a hex map with miniatures, about 1/285 scale, or counters. Paper record sheets track each unit's weapons, armor, heat and ammunition, and two six-sided dice settle results such as whether a shot hits. The most common units are BattleMechs, large piloted fighting machines, and a detailed design system lets players build custom units. The main rulebook is Total Warfare, from 2006.
