Wyrmspan

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Wyrmspan is a card-driven board game for one to five players, released in 2024 and designed by Connie Vogelmann. It casts players as keepers of dragons and carries the card drafting and engine-building core of Wingspan into a fantasy setting, adding an excavation element in which players physically unlock new sanctuary spaces turn by turn. Hand management matters as much as drafting, because players keep choosing which cards to play, save or trigger for their once-per-game abilities. Each player works in parallel on a personal dragon sanctuary, chaining effects when cards align and reacting only occasionally to the open draft, so the table experience is quiet and largely solitary. A session takes about ninety minutes, and the game is rated medium in weight for players aged fourteen and up.
