Crysis 2 is a first-person shooter video game developed by the German studio Crytek, with assistance from Crytek UK, and published by Electronic Arts. It was released in March 2011 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with a remastered edition following in October 2021 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is set in 2023, three years after the events of the original Crysis, in a New York City ravaged by an alien virus. Players control Alcatraz, a United States Force Recon Marine who inherits an advanced Nanosuit 2.0 after his squad is wiped out, and who must fight the alien Ceph as they invade the city. The Nanosuit grants customizable abilities such as stealth cloaking, armor plating and enhanced power, letting players approach the game's urban combat encounters with a flexible mix of stealth, defense and offense. Crysis 2 continued the series' reputation for pushing contemporary graphical fidelity while shifting the setting from the original's open jungle to a dense, vertical city environment.
