Rocketmen (card game)

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Rocketmen was a constructible strategy game produced by WizKids, released in 2005 and discontinued in 2006. Like WizKids' sailing-themed Pirates of the Spanish Main, it used spaceships built from polystyrene cards bought in randomly assorted booster packs, and ships could be customized with crew and equipment to form a single fleet. A single booster could hold enough for a basic game, including two ships, a crew card, a resource card, an asteroid card, a die and a rules booklet. Ship types include fighter squadrons, rocketships, cruisers, space stations and harvesters. The setting draws on movie serial era space opera, with factions such as the Legion of Terra and Mars on one side and the Alliance of Free Planets, including Venus, Mercury and the Terran Rebels, on the other. Marketing included seven animated web episodes, and the video game Rocketmen: Axis of Evil won a Vanguard Unique Game Award at the 2006 Origins Game Fair.
