Balloon Cup

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Balloon Cup is a light two-player card game about hot-air balloon racing, designed by Stephen Glenn and dated 2003 on Board Game Matcher. Landscape cards are laid out in the middle of the table and each carries colored cubes. On a turn a player adds a balloon card to one of the landscapes, trying to have the stronger side so that they win its cubes, and because a card can be played on the opponent's side as well, a play can either help the player or sabotage the rival's plans. Collecting enough cubes of one color earns the trophy for that color, and three otherwise useless cubes can be traded for one that is needed. The first player to earn the required trophies wins. The page lists a play time of about 30 minutes, an age rating of 8 and up, and the mechanics Contracts, Hand Management, Race, Set Collection and Take That.
