Epic 40,000 is a tabletop miniatures wargame published by Games Workshop in 1997 as a boxed game. It plays Warhammer 40,000 at the small 6mm scale known as epic scale, so that a player commands whole armies and formations rather than a handful of individual models. The rules in the 1997 box are described as the third edition of the Epic rules. The game was designed by Andy Chambers and Jervis Johnson, with Gavin Thorpe also credited, and it is meant for two to four players aged twelve and over, with a typical game lasting about three hours. A reviewer who summarised its rules singles it out among the several epic-scale versions of Warhammer 40,000 because it takes the emphasis off fiddly special rules for individual units and concentrates on a fast-playing, enjoyable game, and he reports that both of its designers have publicly called it the best set of rules they ever wrote.
