Moon Base Clavius

Modern Conquest and War Games

Moon Base Clavius is a science fiction board wargame for two players, designed by Kerry Anderson and published by Task Force Games in 1981. It is set in the American lunar colony in Clavius Crater in the mid-21st century, where one player commands the Soviet Lunar Army attacking the Air Force stationed at the base held by the other. The game has 108 die-cut counters, a map and an 18-page rulebook. Units shoot and then move, most weapons reach one hex, and combat is resolved by comparing attack strength against terrain on two six-sided dice. Tactical nuclear weapons, infantry rocket backpacks and an American monorail add variety. Three scenarios cover the initial assault, attacks on the colonies and the marine landing, and a campaign links them. Reviewers found it simple but unbalanced.
