Illuminati (play-by-mail game)

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Illuminati is a computer-moderated play-by-mail game published by Flying Buffalo Inc, built on the Illuminati card game from Steve Jackson Games. Its central theme is conspiracy and intrigue. Up to 24 players take part, playing either by email or by post, and the turns of all players are processed simultaneously by computer rather than one after another. The game was first owned by Adventure Systems and passed to Flying Buffalo Inc in 1986. It has won the Origins Award for Best Play-By-Mail Game seven times, once in 1985 and six times in the 1990s, and it was inducted into the Origins Hall of Fame in 1997. It is a different work from the Steve Jackson Games card game that inspired it.
