Good & Bad Ghosts

Displacement and Capture Games

Good & Bad Ghosts, also sold as Ghosts! and known in German as Geister, is a two-player supernatural board game designed by Alex Randolph and published by Milton Bradley in 1982. It is played on a six by six grid that represents a haunted castle, with an escape exit at each of the four corners. Each player has eight ghost pieces, four good and four evil, set out in two rows of four. A dot on the back of each ghost shows its alignment to its owner, but from the front all ghosts look alike, so neither player knows which of the opponent's pieces are good. Each turn a player moves one ghost one square, and capturing an opposing ghost reveals its nature. A player wins by capturing all four of the opponent's good ghosts or by walking a good ghost out through an exit on the opponent's side, but loses by capturing all four evil ones. The game won the 1986 Arets spil Best Family Game Award and was recommended for the 1982 Spiel des Jahres.
