BAOR (game)

Modern Conquest and War Games

BAOR is a two-player hex-grid board wargame published by Simulations Publications, Inc. in 1981, imagining a Warsaw Pact invasion of West Germany in the final decade of the Cold War. The title stands for British Army of the Rhine, the British force then stationed in Germany as part of the NATO commitment. One player commands the Soviet invaders and the other the NATO defenders on a map covering countryside between Hannover and Kassel at four kilometres to the hex. Units spend Action Points on movement and combat and accumulate Friction Points as they tire, and a game turn stands for twelve hours of fighting. Rules cover supply, artillery, helicopters, air power, engineers, and chemical, biological and tactical nuclear weapons. It was the third title in SPI's Central Front Series and first appeared as a free pull-out game in Strategy and Tactics magazine, issue 88.
