Axis & Allies

Modern Conquest and War Games

Axis & Allies is a series of World War II strategy board games played on a map of Earth divided into territories, in which two to five players take command of the major belligerent powers of the war, either the Axis (Germany and Japan) or the Allies (the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and the United States). Designer Larry Harris created the game under the working title 1942 in the late 1970s, and the first edition was published in 1981 by Nova Game Designs, with a wider-reaching second edition released by Milton Bradley in 1984; the series moved to Renegade Game Studios's list in 2023. Players move armies, navies and air forces across the map, with combat results decided by dice rolls, aiming to capture enemy territories and hold enough critical territory to gain a decisive advantage. A standard game typically runs around three hours.
