The Great Redoubt

Modern Conquest and War Games

The Great Redoubt, subtitled A Game of the Battle of Borodino, 1812, is a two-player board wargame published by Yaquinto Publications in 1979. One player commands the French army of Napoleon and the other the Russians who made a stand near the village of Borodino on the road to Moscow. The package holds 315 counters, a large hex-grid map and a 24-page rulebook, and reviewers described it as of more than moderate complexity. Play follows a detailed sequence of mutual fire or melee, rout after failed morale checks and advances after melee, with each player tracking the morale of every unit on a roster sheet. Units can take line, column, square or all-around formation, and optional rules add skirmishers, cavalry charges, command control and shifting initiative. It was designed by S. Craig Taylor and shares its system with Thin Red Line.
