Dune (board game)

Modern Conquest and War Games

Dune is a strategy board game set in Frank Herbert's Dune universe, designed by Bill Eberle, Jack Kittredge and Peter Olotka and originally published by Avalon Hill in 1979 for two to six players. Each participant controls one of the factions vying for control of the desert planet Arrakis, such as the Atreides, Harkonnen, Fremen, Spacing Guild or Bene Gesserit, and each faction has distinct special abilities, alliance options and victory conditions that significantly change how it must be played. Players bid for treachery cards, move and battle armies across the planet's regions, and manage the harvesting of the valuable spice melange, all while trying to secure enough strongholds to win outright or forcing a stalemate that favors an ally. The game was reprinted by Gale Force Nine in 2019 ahead of renewed interest driven by the 2021 Dune film adaptation, introducing the design to a new generation of players.
