Jotto, also known as Giotto, is a code-breaking pen and paper word game for two players. At the start each player picks a secret word and writes it down. The players then take turns guessing, and the aim is to work out the other player's word before the opponent works out your own. Because it is played with pen and paper it needs no special equipment, and its play rests on guessing words and deducing the opponent's hidden word from the results of earlier guesses, which makes it a word game as much as a code-breaking one.
