All Star Baseball

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

All Star Baseball is a baseball board game first released in 1941, designed by the Chicago Cubs ballplayer Ethan Allen and manufactured by the Cadaco-Ellis company. Instead of rolling dice, a player places a circular card for a real batter on a spinner and spins it to learn the result of the plate appearance, while a second spinner settles whether baserunners advance, score or are put out. A diagram of a baseball field carries the pegs for runners, and cardboard wheels track the inning, the outs and the score. The game was pitched at boys of nine to twelve and was simpler than rivals such as Strat-O-Matic Baseball, with no pitching or fielding cards. Boxed sets were updated each year with current players until the mid-1990s, and it became the best-selling baseball board game of all time.
