Star Wars Trading Card Game

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Star Wars: The Trading Card Game is a two-player collectible card game published by Wizards of the Coast and designed by Richard Garfield, who also created Magic: The Gathering. It was first released in April 2002 and put on indefinite hold by the publisher in late 2005, after which a fan group, the Star Wars Trading Card Game Independent Development Committee, carried on designing new cards and offering them as free downloads. Play centres on gaining control of three arenas, Space, Ground and Character, using units drawn from the Star Wars films such as starfighters, Star Destroyers, armies and well-known characters, fighting for either the Light side or the Dark side of the Force. A player normally wins by controlling two of the three arenas, although some cards add other win conditions. Each side builds a sixty-card deck, and the card types include units, battle cards, missions, locations and equipment.
