Race for the Galaxy

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Race for the Galaxy, often shortened to RftG or simply Race, is a card game designed by Thomas Lehmann and released in 2007 by Rio Grande Games. Players build galactic civilizations by playing cards that represent worlds or technical and social developments. It accommodates two to four players by default, while expansions allow up to six players as well as solo play. The game uses iconography in place of language in some places, with complex powers also given a text description. Experienced players appreciate it as concise, though some new players find the icons difficult to learn and decipher. It won the Golden Geek Award for Best Card Game in 2008 and the Fairplay A la carte award for best card game of 2008.
